British Olympic Gold Medallist thanks BAE Systems

4 March 2010

Amy Williams, winner of the gold medal in the skeleton bob at the Vancouver Winter Olympics thanks BAE Systems for help in developing sled.

Britain's largest manufacturer has been working in partnership with UK sport since 2008 across a number of sports including cycling and sailing as well as the skeleton bob.  Using engineering principles that help design the most advanced fighter aircraft, BAE have developed new skeleton sleds for some of the Team - including Amy Williams who affectionately named her sled Arthur.

BAE Systems’ expertise in high-tech, lightweight composite materials makes them ideally placed for this sort of work, where the difference between gold and silver medals can be a fraction of a second.

Amy Williams, who was speaking in her home town of Bath after an open top bus parade through the streets said:

"I'm really grateful to all the scientists and engineers at the University of Southampton and BAE Systems who helped make me and Arthur such a successful team."
